ProTee VX Review: 6 Months Later

The ProTee VX is an overhead-mounted, camera-based launch monitor that uses high-speed stereoscopic cameras to capture ball and club data at impact. It mounts to your ceiling above the hitting area and tracks both club delivery and ball launch without any floor-level devices cluttering your space.

At roughly $5,000-$6,500 depending on configuration, it competes directly with the Uneekor QED and EYE XO2 in the premium home simulator market. We have been using one daily for six months across hundreds of sessions to evaluate its real-world performance.

Ball speed accuracy has been outstanding -- consistently within 1-2 mph of our reference unit (a Foresight GC3 we borrowed for comparison testing). Spin rates match within 100-200 rpm on full shots, which is more than adequate for practice. Club speed, face angle, and path data are similarly reliable.

The VX rarely misses a shot when properly calibrated. In six months, our miss rate has been under 2% -- almost always caused by tees breaking mid-swing or extremely thin chips. Full shots and putts register with near-100% consistency.

Putting data is a genuine strength. Because it views from above, the VX captures putt speed, direction, and face angle with detail that floor-mounted units cannot match. If you practice putting on your simulator, this alone may justify the overhead mount.

ProTee connects via USB to your simulator PC and works through its own VX software interface. From there, it bridges to GSPro, E6 Connect, TGC 2019, and Awesome Golf without issues. The connection has been stable -- we have experienced zero mid-session disconnects in six months.

The proprietary software provides a practice range mode, club fitting data, and session analytics. It is functional but not as polished as the Uneekor View interface. Updates come regularly and have improved ball-flight visualization over our testing period.

Installation is the VX's biggest barrier to entry. You need ceiling height between 9' and 11' for the cameras to have proper field of view. The mounting bracket requires secure attachment to ceiling joists -- drywall anchors will not hold. Plan for 2-4 hours for a first-time install.

Calibration requires hitting a series of shots with alignment sticks and adjusting camera angles through the software. Once calibrated, it stays accurate -- we have only needed to recalibrate once in six months after accidentally bumping the mount during a ceiling light change.

Zero floor clutter is genuinely life-improving once you experience it. No device to avoid with your feet, no cables to step over, no alignment concerns shot-to-shot. You just walk up and swing.

Putting capability and the consistency of read-after-read without adjustments make daily practice frictionless. Power on the PC, launch the software, and you are hitting balls in under 60 seconds.

The software interface feels dated compared to Uneekor View. It works, but the UI could use a modern refresh. We expect ProTee is working on this based on recent update patterns.

Price puts it in direct competition with the Uneekor QED, which has a larger user community and more accessories available. The VX arguably provides slightly better putting data, but the overall ecosystem is smaller.

Installation is not DIY-friendly for everyone. If you are uncomfortable with ceiling work, budget an additional $200-$400 for professional installation.

The ProTee VX is an excellent premium launch monitor that delivers on its promises. Accuracy is competitive with units costing twice as much, reliability over six months has been exceptional, and the overhead-mount convenience factor is real.

We recommend it for: dedicated simulator rooms where you want a clean, permanent installation. We would suggest alternatives if: you need portability, have ceiling height issues, or prefer the Uneekor ecosystem for its larger community and accessory market.
